30 Forestry School Students Missing – Kaduna Govt
The Kaduna State Government has given an update on the kidnap of students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation in Afaka, near Mando in Igabi Local Government Area of the State. The government said that it presently cannot account for 30 students.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG had earlier reported the abduction of students from the school by the bandits who besieged the school late on Thursday.
Contrary to earlier disclosure, this news portal has now been informed that male students were also abducted by the bandits.
Giving details of how the attack happened and developments so far, the Kaduna State Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, said officials of the ministry received a distress call and immediately alerted the 1 Division Nigerian Army and the Air Training Command of the Nigerian Air Force.
“Troops of the Nigerian Army rescued 180 citizens, many of them students, at the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Igabi local government area of Kaduna State.
“The armed bandits in large number had attacked the institution at around 11:30pm on Thursday and kidnapped several students and staff. The armed bandits broke into the institution by breaching a perimeter fence. They then encroached about 600 meters to attack the first facility.
“The troops successfully rescued 180 citizens; 42 female students, eight staff and 130 male students. However, about 30 students, a mix of males and females, are yet to be accounted for,” he said.
According to him, some of the rescued students were injured and presently receiving medical attention at a military facility.
Meanwhile, GreenWhiteGreen GWG understands that the remaining students of the institution have been moved to the 1 Division Garrison Command of the Nigerian Army in Ribadu Cantonment.
