NDDC cash cow

Chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC from the three dominant ethnic groups in Delta South Senatorial district have petitioned President Muhammadu Buhari against moves to appoint an Urhobo as the next managing director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

Alleging that they had been suppressed in the allocation of appointments despite the support they gave to Buhari before 2015, they alleged that further conceding the office to Urhobo would make the president’s long suffering supporters a laughing stock in the state.

They said that despite the fact that majority of the oil production from the state came from their ethnic group, they also alleged that defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had also contributed to the suppression of the president’s original pre-2015 supporters in the region.

While pleading with the president to look among oil industry professionals from the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri ethnic groups in Delta South, the group which came under the aegis of the APC DELTA SOUTH COMMON CAUSE said:

“We, are members of the All Progressives Congress, APC from Delta South Senatorial District, Delta State and were with you in the days of the struggle before 2015.

“We were persecuted by our oppressors in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Interestingly some of these our oppressors since after 2015 because of their own political indiscretions on the other side have now come over to our side since the defeat of the PDP.

Mr. President our presentation is to the effect that your reliable loyalists must not be ridiculed again.

Deputy President Of the Senate

“Having kept quiet for long we have seen our former oppressors taking over the ascendancy in our party and in appointments and putting it to our faces.”

They alleged that despite the fact that Delta South produced the highest number of votes among the three senatorial zones and having the highest number of oil production at 80% that most of the appointments to the state went to the Urhobo in Delta Central.

They particularly mentioned the ministerial slot, office of Deputy Senate President, Executive Director, Projects NDDC, Executive Director, NEXIM Bank, Chairman, NSITF, Nigeria    Ambassador to Vietnam and Member, Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission which have been taken by the Urhobo.

Also observing that the Urhobo produced the only two managing directors of the NDDC produced by the state, the group pleaded with the president to now take a look above the Urhobo.

“We are compelled to do this appeal to Your Excellency because impeccable information available to us indicate that a highly placed officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has surreptitiously used his privileged position to recommend, and he is indeed in the process of influencing the appointment of another Urhobo man, from the Urhobo micro minority in the Warri area of Delta South senatorial District with only four electoral wards to the detriment of the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri population in the area with over 70 electoral wards.

Keyamo: Minister

“Mr. President, we urge you to look beyond Urhobo in the appointment of the Managing Director of NDDC having just recently appointed an Urhobo, Olorogun Festus Keyamo (SAN) as Minister with another, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege occupying the position of Deputy Senate President zoned to the South-South.

“Your Excellency, as a listening President and a father of all, we also passionately urge you to look towards your faithful and loyal foot soldiers who labored with you in the days of the struggle and were ridiculed for their support for you.

“We are not unaware that some of our former oppressors who punished us because of our loyalty to you prior to 2015 are also singing a new song, but it is not from the heart. As a listening father do not allow the vagabonds to continue to ridicule us by promoting them over your loyal children in the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri enclave of the APC.

“We have in abundance tested technocrats who are eminently qualified to hold the position of Managing Director of NDDC.”
