Why I Won’t Join APC – Udom Emmanuel

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has dismissed reports of his imminent exit from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC, saying the rumours were fanned by the opposition in the state.

The rumours spread after Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State defected to the APC.

“Do you know why they are writing that I will join them? They are looking for good people to repair their party,” Mr. Emmanuel was quoted to have said on Tuesday.

“They want someone with projects as they don’t have any. They want someone that commissions projects. They have never commissioned any because they don’t have any. Tell them I am not coming.”

“Akwa Ibom is PDP! PDP is Akwa Ibom! When you see them, tell them that Akwa Ibom is not like any other state. Akwa Ibom is PDP! I think a word Is enough for the wise.

“You know, when they come and see the good roads that the governor has constructed, they are looking for a way for us to come and do the same there. “Tell them that it is not the same. The kind of anointing that is in PDP cannot be found in any Party”.

The Akwa Ibom State chapter of the PDP in a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Borono Bassey speaking in the same vein rebuked the APC for supposedly spreading the rumour of Gov Udom Emmmanuel joining its fold.

He said:

“Workers in the occasionally-grinding rumour mill of our land have yet again hatched a fresh but very ludicrous narrative with the central thesis being the ridiculous claim that, His Excellency, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr Udom Emmanuel is toying with the idea of defecting to the rudderless All Progressives Congress, APC.

“The intendment of this pernicious rumour which unfortunately has arrived at the most inappropriate of moments is targeted at misleading Akwa Ibom people and perhaps causing an unnecessary agitation in our polity.

“As a party, we wish to affirm that His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel, a leader with a towering record of integrity and performance, remains a very committed and dutiful leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in Akwa Ibom State.

“What is clear however from these rumours is that the APC who are the principal shareholders in this rumour mills are desirous of having the focused, Visionary and performing Chief Executive of Akwa Ibom State cross over to their sinking boat, perhaps in the hope that his arrival could be the salvation that has for so long eluded them.”
