Ahmed Musa Becomes Nigeria’s Most Capped Player
Ahmed Musa has become Nigeria’s most capped player after stepping in as a second-half replacement for Kelechi Ihenacho in the country’s World Cup qualifier against Liberia in Morocco.
With his appearance in that game, Ahmed Musa notched 102 games for the Super Eagles, topping former team mates, Joseph Yobo and Vincent Enyeama, who in their playing times for the Eagles each notched 101 caps.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Ahmed Musa had equalled the 101 record set by Yobo and Enyeama’s when he appeared for the Eagles in Nigeria’s 2-0 defeat of the Central African Republic on October 10.
The former Kano Pillars man made his senior debut on August 5, 2010, in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar.
Ahmed Musa scored his first goal for the Super Eagles in the international friendly against Kenya on March 2011 and has played at two AFCON tournaments as well as two FIFA World Cups.
Besides putting himself in the record books as Nigeria’s most capped player in the match against Liberia, Ahmed Musa also placed himself in the record books when he stepped up to take the second-half penalty that put the match beyond Liberia in Morocco.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Nigeria defeated Liberia in the encounter to put qualification for the Qatar World Cup tournament within grasp of the Eagles.
