A stir was raised on Sunday after it emerged that Federal Government security agencies including operatives from anti-money laundering task force raided Atiku Abubakar’s plane on his arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja from Dubai.

The action against the former vice president and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) raised storm across the polity after Atiku alleged that the search was meant to intimidate him and his staff.

Atiku in a tweet on the incident wrote:

I arrived to Abuja this morning to a search by agents of the state, aimed at intimidating me and my staff.

I am committed to building a Nigeria where no citizen is intimidated by agents of state who are paid to protect them.

Together, #LetsGetNigeriaWorkingAgain.

Several others including the PDP and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce condemned the action.

Tweeting at @benmurraybruce, the Bayelsa senator said:·
I totally condemn this reckless harassment of @atiku the candidate of the @OfficialPDPNig as he landed in Abuja. Nigeria is not a fascist state. We will not return to a jackboot dictatorship. This government should face Atiku at the polls, not with force
