Dino Vs Smart: Tribunal Admits Key Evidence In Kogi West Senate Case

Senator Smart Adeyemi on Monday tendered a February 15, 2019 judgment of a Kogi State High Court that compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to collate results of the Kogi West Senate Election in Kabba, the senatorial headquarters.

Senator Adeyemi’s presentation of the certified true copy of the judgment came in the face of assertions by his counsels that the change of the collation centre from Kabba to Lokoja at the last minute allowed the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Senator Dino Melaye to manipulate the results of the election.

Adeyemi who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the election is challenging the return of Melaye as the winner of the election. He is calling for the outright cancellation of the election on the claim that the results were manipulated after the collation centre was moved.

Melaye remarkably had obtained the court judgment compelling INEC to collate the result at the senatorial headquarters as stipulated in the Electoral Act.

On Monday, when Adeyemi made his final submission he was questioned by his counsel, Chief Toyin Adeniyi alongside his campaign manager, Mr. Adoga Ibrahim and the Kogi West Zonal Chairman of APC, Mr. Ropo Asala. They were also cross examined by Melaye’s counsels.

Chairman of the three – man panel, Justice O. A Chijoke admitted the February 15 High Court judgment and adjourned proceedings to June 10 to enable Melaye and INEC open their defence.
