APC Crisis: Oshiomhole Unmoved Upon Buhari, Tinubu Support
Adams Oshiomhole is set to survive the crisis of confidence that has been raised against his leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC sources in the party have revealed. Oshiomhole’s survival despite leading the party to lose governorships in five states, it was learnt was framed on the fact that the two major players who brought him to power have not lost confidence in him.
The two men a party insider said on Friday evening are, President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
The confidence of the two men in the national chairman GreenWhiteGreen learnt has made the governors of the party to align towards Oshiomhole and by that staving off a rebellion that others in the party had tried to stoke.
“So long as the two men who brought him to power are still backing him, Oshiomhole is going nowhere, mark my words on that. You can see that Shuaibu is on his own and that is why they didn’t invite him to yesterday’s National Working Committee, NWC meeting,” the source revealed.
Noting why the immediate past chairman, Chief John
Odigie-Oyegun had to go, the normally reliable party source said:
“Oyegun started fighting Asiwaju who brought him to office and when push came
to shove, he could not survive because he had no strong backbone behind him,
but that is not the case at this point,” it was learnt.
Oshiomhole recently came under attack after the deputy national chairman of the party, Senator Lawali Shuaibu attacked him for causing the losses the party suffered in the elections.
Senator Shuaibu’s attack on Oshiomhole came as a surprise to some on the strength of claims that Shuaibu was himself an acolyte of Tinubu’s.
One source, however, said that Shuaibu may have veered
from the Tinubu train in the last few months.
“If Shuaibu is with Tinubu, there is no way he would have written that letter,”
the source said.
Five states won by the APC in 2015 which were lost in 2019 under Oshiomhole were Adamawa, Zamfara, Imo, Oyo and Bauchi States. Besides, before the election the party also suffered losses when the governors of Sokoto and Benue defected from the party to the PDP upon issues with the Federal Government. The losses were, however, mitigated by the win of Gombe and Kwara States.
