Ondo Monarch Escapes From Herdsmen Kidnappers Hours After Securing Release Of Kidnapped Mother

Hours after securing the release of a mother and her step-son from the grip of herdsmen-kidnappers, an Ondo State traditional ruler has escaped being kidnapped. One of the suspected kidnappers has, however, been apprehended the police in Akure have said.

Oba David Olajide, the Iresi of Osi escaped from the kidnappers who used the same strategy of using cattle to block the road as was used in kidnapping the woman, Mrs Olawumi Adeleye and her step-son, Destiny Paul days earlier.

Oba Olajide was on his way back to his domain after taking Mrs. Adeleye to the police headquarters in Akure and was on his way back to his domain when the bandits struck.

Speaking on the incident and how he escaped, he said:

“after the release of the woman, I took her and her son to the police headquarters to hand them over to the police, so on my way coming back home, the herdsmen blocked the road with their cows, the same way they kidnapped the woman and her son on Sunday when they were returning from church.”

“As I got to the place, I slowed down my car and I saw them coming to attack me but I managed to escape, they hit and damaged my car but through the grace of God I escaped.”

He also confirmed that one of the suspected bandits had been caught and was presently in police custody.

Ondo police spokesman, Femi Joseph who confirmed the arrest said:

“We have the suspect with us, we are already making efforts to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and investigation has also commenced.”
