Kano State will soon dominate over the rest of Nigeria with its population, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has said.

He said this as he lamented the failure of his predecessor, Senator Rabiu Kwankwanso to raise the development indices of the state. He has also vowed to send parents of beggars to jail.

Speaking during a session with UNICEF Youth Advocacy in Government House, Kano, the governor said it was his agenda to raise a vibrant population of skilled manpower that would dominate Nigeria in the way that China is using her population to bear over the rest of the world.

He said that it was in the determination to boost the quality of the manpower that his administration had so far trained 30,000 primary and secondary school teachers.

“I wish what is happening now happened 20 years ago. It would have been a different story by now,” he said in comparison to when Kwankwanso had his first stint as governor of the state.

Noting how he would use the population to leverage over the rest of the country, he said:

“Kano state is the most populous state in the federation. We want our population to be a quality population. There are some countries in the world that don’t have a drop of oil, but yet their economy is strong. The main reason is education, even development, and technology.

“So, we being the most populous state in the country, we want our population to be an asset. As China has conquered the world as a result of the population that is how Kano will conquer Nigeria as a result of population.”

Also giving his determination to rid the state of beggars, he said:

“Children begging on the street instead of going to school will be arrested and their parents arrested and charge to court for prosecution because begging is not our religion. Begging is not Islam.

“Those children who are begging will be arrested and their parents will be taken to court for allowing their children to be begging instead of attending school.”
