High court on Yahaya Bello's request

Some civil servants in Kogi State have warned the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC against giving the governorship ticket of the state to Governor Yahaya Bello warning that his second term would lead to shortening the lifespan of workers in the state.

The workers under the aegis of Concerned Kogi Workers Forum have also endorsed the aspiration of Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman, as the next governor of the state.

Spokesman of the workers in a statement signed by Hassan Abdul made available to GWG appealed to the National Secretariat of the APC that “as workers who bear the brunt of Gov. Bello’s misrule, another opportunity given to him by the APC would mean reducing our lifespan”

The statement said that the forum is made up of workers who were sacked, some who have also been cleared by Governor Bello’s screening committee yet have not been paid for about thirty months. He said another opportunity for the APC to present him for another term would mean the party does not mind their wellness and survival.

The Concerned Workers lamented that never had Kogi State civil servants experienced hardship as they are presently experiencing, said many workers had suffered untimely death and many others unable to meet family obligations.

The workers said while they do not have grouse with President Mohammadu Buhari and the APC, having restated their plights and sufferings caused by Gov. Bello’s insensitivity to payment of salaries and workers welfare, fielding him against the collective wish of the Concerned workers would mean the APC and the presidency does not mind if Kogi workers live or die.

The Concerned Workers said their support for Vice Admiral Usman stemmed from his achievements in the provision of infrastructure and his attention to workers welfare, points to the fact that if elected as governor, he would make salaries and welfare of workers a priority.

The Concerned workers hinged their endorsement to the Naval Command Secondary School Okura, the Naval Base in Idah and Lokoja, some institutions Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman attracted to the state, saying the premium he placed on the workers of those institutions point to the fact that he would replicate same in the state if he is elected as governor.

The Concerned Workers described Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman as matured, experienced who has the qualities needed to bail the state from its current mess, saying he is the best thing that would happen to Kogi State if the APC field him as their candidate.

The workers described the present administration of Gov. Bello as not friendly to workers plight, lamented that after several months of their been cleared by the screening committee, still suffer unpaid salaries with no explanation from the government.

The workers who listed the bail out, Paris club refunds as some intervention to the state government to clear backlog of salaries, but lamented that rather than their sufferings to abate, their condition keeps deteriorating for the worse, saying they were confident that Vice Admiral Usman would wipe away their tears.
