APC election shift

The Prophet Jones Erue led All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State has alleged last minute efforts by the Otega Emerhor led tendency in the state chapter of the party to create confusion among party members through a fake charm offensive.

Noting efforts by the Emerhor tendency to withdraw court actions instigated against the Erue leadership, the APC said that the decision was actually forced on it by the realization that the effort to oust the leadership and its elected office holders had failed.

The assertions in a statement issued by the State Publicity Secretary, Barrister Sylvester Imonina was against the background of the long faceoff between the two tendencies in the state that was brought to national attention at the national convention of the party when the group drove out the Erue leadership from the Delta State stand as President Muhammadu Buhari commenced his address.

The party particularly noted efforts by the Emerhor tendency to stop the emergence of Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the Deputy President of the Senate which it was claimed failed

Observing the confusion in the Emerhor camp over the time limit for addressing pre-election matters and the effort to withdraw the case to give the impression of a peace gesture, Imonina warned that the group’s action only came because of the derailment of its judicial action.

The withdrawal if it comes to pass would come about five months after Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at a peace meeting with both sides in Warri called for the withdrawal of all judicial actions in court.

Responding in the statement, Imonina said:

“The All Progressives Congress Delta State Chapter, wishes to inform the general public that consequent upon the proceedings at the Supreme Court on the 11th July, 2019, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor  is stuck in a blind.

“And faced with an imminent defeat at the Supreme Court, he is now desperately looking for a “face saving” way out of a political bind he now finds himself by claiming that he is withdrawing the Appeal filed by the Cyril Ogodo led factional Executive Committee from the Supreme Court in the interest of Urhobo and Delta State.

“Undoubtedly, this would be another grand deception, as Emerhor already knows that he has lost the case when the Supreme Court rejected all efforts by his lawyer to move his application to bring back the October 14th adjourned date in respect of the Appeal.

“This development has no doubt caused widespread panic among his followers, who correctly understood that by that time the Appeal would have elapsed by effusion of time, as all Appeals on pre-election matter has a life span of 60days.

“Predictably unwilling to just admit he has lost, Emerhor has been desperately trying to find a way to secure a soft landing.  First, he requested a sit down with the Deputy President of the Senate to negotiate deal which he didn’t get. So he has now come up with a ploy to hoodwink the media and the general public into believing that he is withdrawing the case in response to pleas to withdraw the case by well meaning Nigerians.

“You will recall that Emerhor has done everything he could to stop Senator Ovie Omo-Agege’s  reelection ensuring he lost his unit and ward during the national elections in February. He has also tried to steal the mandate in court, claiming to be the senator-elect on the basis of Asaba High Court judgement that was later upturn by the the  Court of Appeal sitting in Benin. Not deterred, Emerhor appealed the judgement to the Supreme Court in further attempt to stop Omo-Agege at all cost.”
