The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has again insisted that it would not cede an automatic ticket to Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State if his erstwhile godfather, Comrade Adams Oshiomhiole denies him an automatic return ticket.

While insisting that there is no automatic ticket for anyone contesting for the governorship election under its platform, stressing the party candidate would be chosen based on the provision of the party constitution.

The party, in an internal memo signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Chris Nehikhare, on Tuesday, after a stakeholder meeting, its Chairman, Mr. Dan Orbih noted that  the party would welcome Obaseki as its membership is open to all  Nigerians, stressing that no preferential treatment would be given to the governor in the race of who will be the party governorship candidate.

According to him, “On the rumours concerning Governor Obaseki – one issue that keeps coming up in the build-up to next year’s governorship election is whether Obaseki is coming to join us?

“My answer is I don’t know. Will you receive him if he wants to join us? My answer is Yes; our party membership is open to all Nigerians who want to join. Are we going to give automatic ticket to him? There is no provision in our party constitution that guarantees automatic ticket for anyone contesting governorship ticket. Our Governorship candidate will be chosen in compliance with the provisions of our party’s constitution.”
