Edo PDP Disowns Third Term Plot For Orbih, Rejects Suspension Of Dokpesi, Ikimi, Other Leaders

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Edo State has disowned a group that claimed to have suspended some of the party’s leading lights and pushed forward a third term for the outgoing chairman, Chief Dan Orbih.

Orbih’s term is due to end in March 2020 and has indicated his interest to step down for a new chairman.

However, a group styling itself as the PDP Integrity Group had issued a statement sanctioning some of the party’s leading lights including Chief Tom Ikimi, Chief Raymond Dokpesi among others and projected a third term for Chief Orbih.

Chief Orbhi has, however, disowned the group suggesting a deliberate plot to stir up an internal crisis in the PDP.

Disclaiming the group and its actions, the party in a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Chris Nehikhare, said:

“Edo PDP is not aware of any group that goes by the name PDP integrity group. Whatever statement that has been released or issued by this group should be disregarded.

“We frown at their audacity to suspend or even say they are suspending respected leaders of our party especially as they lack such powers.

“Their attempt to offer an extension to the tenure of Chief Dan Orbih is not only laughable, but infantile. Chief Orbih has not requested for any extension. He has said he is going on the expiration of his tenure in March 2020. That is the position of the party!

“Their behavior is mischievous and condemnable. They are not members of any organ of our party and as such cannot issue statements or releases on behalf of PDP.

“We will not hesitate to discipline any party member that submits himself to be used as a political tool in the hands of our political opponents.”
