Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has dismissed reports of massive irregularities in the governorship election that returned him to power last Saturday saying that “pockets of issues” will not rubbish his sweet victory.

Bello who noted that the election was free, fair and credible also dismissed the reports of the observers who he said did not have the reach to cover the whole state.

Speaking on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Today, Bello stated that a level playing field was provided for all political stakeholders in the state.

According to him, “The conduct of the election was quite very credible, a level-playing field was provided and it was free and fair. In every election, there is bound to be one issue or the other and you can’t take a pocket of issues to judge the general conduct of the election.”

Reacting to reports emanating from election observers, the Governor-Elect noted: “Regarding the comment of the civil society organisation, they are entitled to their own opinion but let us know the parameters with which they are judging this election.

“How many polling units did they visit out of 2,548 polling units, 239 wards and 21 local governments across the difficult terrains of this state? How many people have they reached out to?

“Have they interviewed all the electorates? So what are their yardsticks? he said.

A number of casualties were reported in the course of the election with the most gruesome being the post election burning alive of Mrs. Salome Abuh, a PDP woman leader in the state.
