Anambra Guber: Ohanaeze Takes Position On Zoning

Anambra LGA election

The Anambra State chapter of Ohaneze Ndi Igbo has called on Governor Willie Obiano to champion the move for his successor to emerge from Anambra South as a way of consolidating zoning as a permanent feature in the state.

The Anambra State governorship election is not due until 2021 and there is apprehension that Anambra South which last occupied the office between 1999 and 2003 could be edged out by other senatorial zones that are quietly bidding to contest.

Before Governor Chinwoke Mbadiniju, the only other Anambra South person that has occupied the office was Governor Chukwuemeka Ezeife between 1992 and 1993 making the two persons from the zone to have held the office less than the eight years that other zones have occupied the office.

Throwing his support for Anambra South at a ceremony to mark the third anniversary of the executive of the Orumba North chapter of Ohanaeze, the state chairman, Mr. Damain Okeke-Ogene urged all political stakeholders to focus on the region so as to lessen the contention.

While calling on Governor Obiano to lead the campaign having been a beneficiary of zoning, he said:

“We have no doubt that governor Obiano as beneficiary of the arrangement will support the shift of power to Anambra South senatorial district.”

“With the victory of Governor Willie Obiano in the November 2017 governorship election, Anambra North has taken its eight years slot. The state is warming up for another gubernatorial election in 2021 and the slot will move to Anambra South for the next uninterrupted eight years,” he affirmed.
