Oshiomhole As Casualty As Govs, Others Move Against Tinubu

Adams Oshiomhole may have become a casualty in the progressing attempt by some entrenched forces in the polity to derail the 2023 presidential aspiration of Bola Tinubu.

The forces championing the move against the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Tinubu, according to sources include serving and former governors who have put aside the equal fact that Tinubu was also a two term former governor.

Even more, the national chairman of the party, Oshiomhole is also a former governor of Edo State.

However, sources say that those interested in derailing the presidential aspiration of Tinubu are working in line with other forces including those in Edo State to force Oshiomhole out of office.

“If Oshiomhole remains as national chairman, then you can be sure that Tinubu’s chances are 50% of getting the presidential ticket of the APC,” a source familiar with the development told GWG.

It is in this context that serving governors and some immediate past governors are said to be canvassing the idea that Tinubu may have been “old school” and that a governor fresh from office or who may have just left office should succeed President Muhammadu Buhari.

Remarkably, the governors who are said to be contacting themselves on this issue come from both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

“A governor should succeed Buhari and the idea of having someone who has not governed a state governing Nigeria must never be allowed again,” the source further disclosed.

Interestingly, among the governors being mentioned who could run in 2023 are Kayode Fayemi, Nasir El-Rufai and Abdullahi Ganduje.

Among the former governors increasingly being cited are Kashim Shetimma now a senator and Babatunde Fashola.

Remarkably, besides the governors there are also indications that a wing of the presidency which had not been disposed to Tinubu’s aspiration is now beginning to detach from Oshiomhole as a way of derailing the former Lagos State governor’s aspiration.

One source familiar with the development revealed that the seeming non-interest of the presidency towards Oshiomhole’s problems at home is reflective of the fact that his value may have been diminished.

The presidency has yet to issue a word of support for Oshiomhole since the bitter rebellion by some of his political disciples in Edo State who have now congregated under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki.
