EFCC Picks Okonkwo After Filling Suit Against Commission

Published

on

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), has arrested the candidate of the Action Democratic Party, (ADP),   for last year’s  Anambra State governorship poll, Chief Ifeanyichukwu Okonkwo.

Okonkwo’s arrest came after he instituted N65bn law suit against the commission.

The anti-graft agency   had   earlier detained  Okonkwo  for two days and released him on administrative bail.

However, after 18 months of granting him bail, the commission failed to charge him for allegedly obtaining money under false pretences.

Okonkwo sued the agency for unlawful detention, harassment and freezing of his accounts since May 2019 without any court order.

When the case came up on Thursday at the Federal High Court, Enugu, EFCC failed to file any defence in the suit.

The commission however, picked up Okonkwo immediately after the court adjourned the case till Monday for hearing.

Okonkwo in his earlier petition to the acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu,  he complained  about the action of the South-East Zonal office of the commission.
