Ajimobi Set To Take Over As APC National Chairman

The immediate past governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi was on Wednesday night being positioned as the acting national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the face of the upheaval in the national leadership of the party.

The move was upon the court injunction which suspended Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as national chairman.

The acting national secretary of the party, Victor Giadom had earlier on Wednesday pledged the party’s readiness to obey the court injunction.

The decision to unveil him was interpreted by some stakeholders as a way of ensuring that only a pro-Oshiomhole official acts in his place while the court-ordered suspension of Oshiomhole lasts.

However, a statement from the party’s spokesman, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu following Giadom’s press briefing, released a communiqué where Ajimobi and two others were adopted as members of the National Working Committee, NWC of the party.

Ajimobi was adopted as Deputy National Chairman, South while Arch. Waziri Bulama was appointed as Acting National Secretary and Mr. Paul Chukwuma as National Auditor.

The statement issued by Issa-Onilu disclosed that the decisions on the appointment were reached at a meeting of the NWC on January 14, 2020. The decisions were, however, never communicated to the public.

Ajimobi has been entrenched in a controversy with party members from within and outside Oyo State over his nomination for the position of Deputy National Chairman.

The decision to unveil him was interpreted by some stakeholders as a way of ensuring that only a pro-Oshiomhole official acts in his place while the court-ordered suspension of Oshiomhole lasts.

Meanwhile, sources at the party’s national secretariat disclosed on Wednesday night that Oshiomhole had sought a stay of execution of the order.

GreenWhiteGreen could not confirm if the order had been granted as at press time.
