Oshiomole: Attack From Home

National Chairman of All Progressive Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomole may have fought and won battles in the Labour front, but the raging battle he currently faces may determine his political future.

On Wednesday, an FCT high court gave an order restraining the former NLC chairman and immediate past governor of Edo State from from parading himself as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The Court ruling is expected to be followed by various legal battles.

Oshiomole has been in the eye of the storm since a political battle started between him and his anointed successor Godwin Obaseki.

Obaseki with an eye on a second term which does not have the backing of Oshiomhole has not wasted time to exert himself as he quickly took control of the Edo State House of Assembly, which was hurriedly ‘inaugurated’ and a speaker ‘elected’ at night with only nine lawmakers present.

As the battle raged, Obaseki sacked eight commissioners who are loyalists of Oshiomhole.

Obaseki it was also alleged instigated the APC in the state to suspend Comrade Oshomole at his Ward, Local Government and State levels.

He was accused of multiple infractions bordering on disregard for the rule of law.

Obaseki, while saying Oshiomole is not a member of the party assured his supporters that President Muhammadu Buhari, had directed the state APC to deal with the pro-Oshiomhole Edo Progressive Movement and the national chairman for anti-party activities.

Obaseki it was also alleged, instigated the APC in the state to suspend Comrade Oshomole at his Ward, Local Government and State levels.

“Can you imagine a national chairman that is creating problems in his own house? Because of that, we had to suspend him and he remains suspended,” Obaseki had said.

“We pray that God should have mercy on him because he has done something bad against God and the people of Edo state.

“He should find his way back into the party and apologize to all of us.”

Oshiomole has being accused of alleviating god-fatherism in the party.

APC Chieftain in Edo State, Mr. Charles Idahosa, holds Oshiomhole liable for causing the current crisis rocking the APC across the country.

But Idahosa, who served as special adviser on political matters to Oshiomhole when he was the Edo State governor, said the embattled national chairman was the cause of the crisis rocking the party across the country.

Idahosa said, “Comrade Oshiomhole should spare us the drama of asking Nigerians to pray for him over the APC crisis.

“It is just a case of bare-faced deceit, which is second nature to him.

“It is public knowledge that he is the cause of the crisis in the party, at the national and state levels.

“The APC is in more crisis than Oshiomhole met it; the party has lost grounds on account of the national chairman’s combative stance in running its affairs.

“In Edo State, he is fighting dirty to entrench himself as a godfather, which he had in the past stood against.

There are several factors to determine the fate of the embattled Oshiomole. They include what Buhari think about him, the APC governors and issues of 2023.

It is now generally believed that the many people against Oshiomhole at the national level have been able to infiltrate his base at home to fight him.

If Oshiomole had known two years when he joined forces with some other external forces outside Edo to fight another Edo son, John Odigie-Oyegun as APC Chairman that he will end up against stronger forces, he perhaps would have thought twice.
