Chelsea’s Hudson-Odoi Down With Coronavirus

Chelsea players and officials went into self-isolation late on Thursday after Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive for the coronavirus.

He became the first Premier League player to test positive for the virus.

The development cast a shadow over the viability of the weekend league games following the lockdown at The Emirates following the positive test on Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager.

“Chelsea men’s team player Callum Hudson-Odoi had a positive test result for coronavirus returned this evening,” a club statement said late on Thursday.

“Chelsea personnel who had recent close contact with the player in the men’s team building will now self-isolate in line with government health guidelines.

“These will include initially the full men’s team squad, coaching staff and a number of backroom staff.”

Hudson-Odoi reportedly showed symptoms of the virus including cold on Monday and went into isolation immediately.

Despite the positive test result, the club said he was doing well.

Chelsea had been scheduled to play Aston Villa this weekend and the prospect of that match has now been put in doubt.
