Nigerians have taken to the microblogging platform, Twitter, to react to the letter written by the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamido Adeyemi III to Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State, demanding that the governor should tread with caution over the crisis rocking the the state traditional council.

The letter was signed by seven prominent traditional rulers in Yoruba land, warned Fayemi to respect the hierarchical nature of the sixteen crowned obas in Ekiti land.

This was sequel to the query issued to the sixteen crowned obas in Ekiti State by Fayemi over their failure to attend council meetings.

The sixteen crowned obas in Ekiti have been at loggerheads with Fayemi over the appointment of Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, which they referred to as a subordinate oba to them.

Many Nigerians, on Twitter, have reacted to the letter written by Alaafin of Oyo, some are of the opinion that the letter of Alaafin is a strong message to Fayemi that Yoruba traditional rulers are not like those in the Northern part of the country, who can be remove due to executive fiat.

Others argued that the letter might not stop Fayemi of using executive power to depose the obas in Ekiti, noting what can happen in the North can happen in the West.
