Sharp criticisms have trailed the decision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to set up a relief fund for the victims of the still-unexplained explosion that happened in the Abule-Odo area of the state.

The governor, on Monday, when he visited the scene of the explosion set up a N2billion Relief Fund for the victims, while calling well meaning Nigerians to assist in the funding of the scheme.

Sanwo-Olu, on his Twitter account, also published bank account details for contributions for the victims of the explosion.

The governor said, “I spent some time today at the site of the tragic incident at Abule Ado. To give immediate relief and support to the victims of the disaster, I have set up a N2 billion Relief Fund to be chaired by Dr. Obafemi Hamzat. The state government has put N250m into the fund immediately.”

Many Nigerians, especially residents of Lagos State have taken to the microblogging platform to criticize the governor for setting up a gofund me account for the victims, noting that the state government collect huge amount of taxes as revenue.

Those who reacted to the development argued that the action is laughable and ridiculous, considering that the Lagos State Government has multiple streams of revenue collection.
