In a shocking development, the newly elected Speaker or Rivers’ state, Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, has boldly declared that the actions carried out by the faction led by the former speaker, Martin Chike Amaewhule, are null and void.

The House also announced that all measures undertaken by members of the factional Assembly under the leadership of Hon. Martin Amaewhule are null and void.

They have further urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to cease interactions with the former legislators who lost their positions due to defection.

During his speech to the assembly, the new Speaker said that Rt. Edison Ogerenya Ehie who resigned as speaker adhered to section 92(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended in adjourning the house sine die.

Honourable Oko-Jumbo observed that since the House’s previous session on December 13, 2023, followed by its adjournment sine die, a significant amount of legislative misconduct has occurred involving 25 former members of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, under the leadership of the former Speaker, Rt. Martin Chike Amaewhule.

GWG.ng reports that the emergence of Oko-Jumbo as the new speaker aims to counter the Amaewhule led faction that is allegedly loyal to FCT minister, Nyesom Wike.
