First Nigerian Covid-19 Death As Virus Arrives Edo
The first case of death from disease related to coronavirus pandemic occurred in Nigeria on Monday, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC announced on Monday.
The first death occurred as the first incidence of the virus spread to Edo State.
The death was of a 65 year old male who had just returned from the United Kingdom who also had a cancer.
Earlier the NCDC announced that the coronavirus pandemic touched down in Edo State on Monday as five new cases of the virus were reported. Two of the five cases were each reported in Lagos and Abuja.
The development brought the total number of cases in the country to 35 with two of the cases no longer active.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced the developments on its Twitter handle.
It also said the virus has spread to six states — FCT, with six cases; Lagos, 24 cases; Oyo, one case; Ogun, two cases; Ekiti, one case, and Edo, one case.
Out of the 35 confirmed cases — only 33 are active — two patients have recovered from the disease and discharged.
