Biosecurity refers to measures that are taken to stop the spread or introduction of harmful organisms to human, animal and plant life.

Ibrahim who harped on good hygiene by the farmers, said the call became necessary in order to prevent the industry from being confronted with strange disease outbreak.

He said in order to ensure biosecurity, farmers should  guide against allowing members of the public to have direct assess to their farms, adding that if there must be need for that, such persons must be disinfected.

The president advised the farmers to minimise going  to market or any crowded places as  doing so could expose them to importing the COVID-19 to the farm.

He  also warned them against going to poultry house with the clothes worn to food stuff market.

“You have to change your clothes and wash it, then put on fresh clothes.

“People dealing with eggs should make sure they do not use second hand egg crate, like the paper crate, do not reuse. Once it comes out of the farm, discard it and do not allow it back

“If you must reuse egg crate it has to be the plastic one and make sure you disinfect them before reuse,”he said.

Ibrahim advised the farmers to properly wash and disinfect vehicles or buses coming to their farms to carry chicken before putting day-old chicks on such vehicles.

According to him, the measure is to ensure such vehicles do not carry virus before carrying the chicken for transportation.
