Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has refuted the reports highlighted in a Twitter trend that he bought a mansion of N650 million in Enugu State.

An hashtag #SaintObi seen on the microblogging platform, Twitter, on Monday, generated tweets saying the Vice Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, embezzled resources from the coffers of the Anambra State Government and used such to buy expensive houses in some parts of the country.

The Twitter trend sparked clash of opinions from the supporters of Obi and those who created the hashtag.

The supporters of Obi argued that those who created the hashtag were paid to do so in a bid to defame the character of the former governor, while pointing accusing fingers to the All Progressive Congress.

Refuting the claims, the former governor said he did not need any house outside his present house in Onitsha, noting that he is only interested in building schools and hospitals.

Obi tweeted, “Contrary to the reports on social media, I didn’t buy any house in Enugu or elsewhere. I do not need a house outside of Anambra for now, and I am committed to living in my house in Onitsha. The houses I am interested in building, for now, are hospitals and schools. -PO.”
