Dino Melaye: The Actor And His Actresses

News of the reported engagement of Senator Dino Melaye to star actress, Iyabo Ojo has been trailed by drama.

It was, however, not surprising given the many drama episodes that have trailed the life and politics of the former Kogi lawmaker.

The inclination for drama peaked when last year he won a major role in a Nollywood blockbuster, Lemonade.

That cameo role was preceded by several real-life drama events like the story of his surviving on a tree for a day or so after he disappeared from a vehicle conveying him for an appointment with his political foes in his native Kogi State.

Before that he had been engaged in a fight on the floor of the House of Representatives, engaged Senator Oluremi Tinubu on the Senate floor among other theatric appearances.

Dino and Iyabo have come out to rebuke the purveyors of the story but without directly rebuffing any emotional attachment to one another.

His love life has been divided into different scenes as a movie picture with some of Nollywood’s leading actresses cast in leading roles one after the other.

His marriage to Tokunbo lasted for ten years and produced three children. Melaye was also reported to have engaged Alero Falope, a niece of Senator Daisy Danjuma at a traditional ceremony following the marriage with Tokunbo. That relationship, however, did not last as she moved out after about six months.

SDM, as he is popularly called, was about six years ago linked in a romantic relationship with one of Nollywood’s leading actresses, Bisi Ibidapo Obe.

They were reportedly linked together by another actress based in Canada.

The relationship ended after Ms Ibidapo Obe claimed he was responsible for her pregnancy, a claim he was reported to have initially rebuffed before accepting.

But before his acceptance, Tokunbo his then estranged wife waded in accusing him of lying.

She tweeted at that time:

“You have a Masters degree in lying, but I have a PHD in detecting bullsh*t!. Trust is like paper…Once it’s crumpled, it can’t be perfect again. There’s a limit to what one can take, if you keep piling load on the camels back, there comes a point that back will surely break!

 Since then a number of women within and outside Nollywood have been associated with the maverick senator. But none to the degree to which of Ms. Iyabo Ojo has been.

Ms Ojo, 42 is like Dino, a divorcee and had two children with her former husband who was known to have been a video marketer.

She has a reputation as a suave actress, director and producer. Sources say that the two were brought together by the same Canadian actress who linked the senator and his former Nollywood lover, Ibidapo Obe.

A day after the reports of their engagement surfaced and the two separately muttered, Ms. Ojo caused more provocations on social media. She set Instagram abuzz with her pictures in different poses apparently determined to show off a ring. She captioned the pictures, ‘Love wins’

Whether this is another real life drama where love has really won or a rehearsal for Dino Melaye’s next Nollywood script can only be imagined.
