SIM: Court Frees Hanan Buhari, MTN; Slams DSS

A Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, on Thursday, ordered the Department of State Service (DSS) to pay N10million damages to one Anthony Okolie who was detained for his use of an MTN card once used by Hanan Buhari, a daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Okolie was arrested and detained for ten weeks by the DSS.

Okolie, through his lawyer, Tope Akinyode, sued Hanan Buhari, the SSS and MTN, demanding for N500million damages for gross and unlawful violation of his right to acquire moveable properties, freedom of movement and self dignity.

Ruling on the matter, on Thursday, Justice Dimgba awarded the sum of N10 million against the DSS for abuse of Okolie’s fundamental human rights.

Both MTN and Hanan Buhari were absolved as the judge ruled that there was no substantial evidence against them.
