Bill Gates Denies $10m Bribe To Reps

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has denied the report that its founder, Bill Gates offered a bribe of $10 million to the Nigerian House of Representatives to pass the Control of Infectious Diseases Bill.

The Control of Infectious Diseases Bill, which is currently under consideration in the House of Representatives has become a subject of controversy as a result of some of its provisions that are antithetical to fundamental human rights and the issues surrounding vaccination.

Part V of the bill focuses on vaccination and other prophylaxis.

The provision of the bill relating to vaccination against infectious diseases as being directly linked to the Bill Gates and vaccines conspiracy, creating outrage among some section of Nigerians, who believed that the bill was masterminded by Bill Gates in order to implant chips in human beings. A claim that is false.

Given the rush brought by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila to push through the bill there were insinuations that the House was acting under external factors.

It was on that basis that the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), in a statement, by its spokesperson, Imo Ugochinyere, accused Bill Gates of offering a bribe of $10 million to the law makers to influence the speedy passage of the bill, negating conventional legislative processes.

Reacting to the allegations, representative of the Gates Foundation in Nigeria,  Paulin Basinga, noted that the Foundation has not offered any financial inducement to the legislative arm of the country, noting that the Foundation follows ethical and legal guidelines in its operations.

Basinga said the allegations are false and lack merit

“The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has recently been made aware of an allegation circulating in certain elements of the Nigerian media that the Foundation was involved in a payment purportedly made to the Nigeria House of Representatives. Any such allegations are entirely false and without merit.

“To be clear, the Foundation has not offered any financial incentives to any member of Nigeria’s legislative branch for the passage of legislation nor has it offered any grants to organisations in Nigeria in connection with the same.

“What drives the Foundation’s work is the simple and compelling belief that all lives have equal value, and that everyone deserves to lead a healthy productive life,” Basinga said.
