A 42-year-old man, Lawrence Amadasun, was Friday arraigned before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin for allegedly stealing the sum of N 6.2 million. The defendant is being tried on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Charity Asemota, alleged that the defendant committed the offence on December 16, 2019. According to her, the defendant conspired with others at large and stole the sum of N 6. 2 million belonging to Mr. Moses Sunday

She said the offence contravened Sections 516 and 390(8)(b)  64 of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. 11, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976, now applicable in Edo.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge. The Chief Magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 with two surety in like sum.

He said that one of the sureties must be a responsible Public Servant and must depose to Affidavit of Means and deposit two recent passport photographs of themselves and that of the Defendant.

He added that the sureties residence and place of work must be verified by the Court Registrar. The Chief Magistrate thereafter adjourned the case until June 15 for further hearing.
