Pregnant PG Student Attacked, Killed In Ibadan

A seven-month pregnant post-graduate student of the University of Ibadan Shomuyiwa Azeezat was on Friday morning discovered in a pool of her blood after being attacked overnight.

The insinuation that she was raped immediately trended on social media, but that was being played down on Friday evening by officials of the Student’s Union.

The incident was said to have occurred at the residence of the deceased in Aba Ijefun, Akinyele Local Government Area, Ibadan, Oyo State Capital, the same area, Bello Barakat was reportedly raped murdered, on Monday.

It is the third case of attack and murder to surface in the country within the space of one week.

On May 27th 2020, Uwaila Omozuwa, a student of University of Benin, was raped and murdered in a church in Benin, having gone there to read her books. The case came to public attention just last weekend.

On June 1, Bello Barakat, a student of Federal College of Animal Health and Production, was also raped and murdered in Akinyele area of Ibadan.

The unfortunate developments have sparked series of protests across the country and on social media. Many Nigerians have demanded that perpetrators of the acts should be caught to face the wrath of the law.

Again, #JusticeForAzeezat has become a trending topic on the microblogging platform, Twitter, as Nigerians are demanding that the perpetrators are caught to face the wrath of the law.
