The nominee for the post of Commissioner for Information in Edo State Hon. Stewart Efe, Friday pledged to improve the relationship between the government and the media when inaugurated into office.

He spoke when he paid a courtesy  call to the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Edo State Council on Friday.

Efe was nominated as the new Commissioner  for Information after the former office holder, Paul Ohunbamu resigned his appointment as a member of the State Executive Council.

Mr. Stewart during the interaction pledged to work with journalists in the state bridge the gap between journalists and the government.

“I’ll continue to wear your armour in government; I am going to represent your interest, it is not going to be business as usual. And so, I need your support for a result full tenure.

“I know the importance and power of the media and so, I cannot underrate it. Any government that undermines power of the media does that at it own detriment,” he said

Responding, the Chairman of NUJ, Edo State Council, Sir Roland Osakue,  decried neglect of media practitioners by the present government in Edo State, nothing: “when the governor was campaigning for his election he was here, but after he won the election he has not visited us here in our secretariat.”

He urged the Commissioner-designate to carry along all journalists in the state and not to discriminate against any one.
