Nigeria Reports 454 New Cases Of COVID-19
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC on Friday reported 454 new cases of COVID-19 in 18 states and the FCT.
Conspicuously missing in its report was Cross River State where the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital claimed it confirmed five cases of the pandemic.
Cross River State was the only state that as at Friday that had not reported any incidence of the disease.
The Chief Medical Director of UCTH had in a memo to the staff circulated on notice boards in the institution alerted staff as to the presence of the virus following five positive samples collected in the hospital. At least two staff were reportedly infected.
“The management of UCTH wishes to inform her staff and patients that COVID-19 tests performed on five samples from our hospital returned positive.
“Two of these samples came from our medical staff.
“This staff members have since made tremendous progress along the path of recovery and are doing well.
“The tests were performed using the PCR technique at the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control accredited laboratory located at Alex Ekweme University Teaching Hospital, Abakiliki.
“Management has duly informed the Cross River Government and other agencies of government.
The NCDC was yet to respond to a tweet by GWG on the development.
Lagos which has been the epicenter of the pandemic reported the highest number of cases with 87 cases followed by the FCT and Edo States with 63 and 60 cases respectively.
The new cases brought the total number of cases in the country of the pandemic to 27,564 with 11,069 recoveries and 628 deaths.
