Hushpuppi Linked To North Korean Bank Robbers, Money Launderers - FBI

Suspected internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas aka Hushpuppi has been denied bail by a Chicago judge and is to remain in jail pending when he is taken to California to answer to other crimes.

Hushpuppi appeared by video link as his lawyers argued for him to be released to the uncle of his baby mama living in Chicago. The lawyers had also argued that he would wear an electronic tag to guarantee that he would remain within the jurisdiction.

However, the argument was seriously opposed by the prosecutors who deposed that left on his own that Hushpuppi could commit more crimes especially when he has a smart phone in his hand.

That was despite the claims of his lawyer, Gal Pissetzky, that the alleged internet fraudster had too much to lose by breaching bail conditions.

“He is loved and respected. He is a celebrity,” the lawyer was quoted by the UAE’s The National as telling the judge

“I don’t see the reason why he would want to ruin his credibility in the world and his status rather than stay here and face this allegation.

“Anywhere he goes, people will know.”

According to him, Hushpuppi having  grown up very poor in Nigeria, is now paid to pose with high-priced items such as Louis Vuitton bags that people would buy after seeing his posts on Instagram.

“He is an influencer,” he said. “That’s a job today, as much as it is hard to imagine. That’s a full-time job.”

Judge Jeffrey Gilbert was, however, unmoved and with Hushpuppi watching from a prison video link.
