Hours to Monday’s governorship primary of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Ondo State, one of the leading aspirants, Dr. Olusegun Abraham dropped out of the race and pledged his support for the re-election of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

It was the lifting of a major obstacle to the governor’s pursuit of the APC governorship ticket.

The governor personally shared the news to the world vide his twitter account.

The governor said: “I just got off the phone with my brother Olusegun Abraham who informed me of his decision to support my second term ambition. Together, we will keep the sun shining in Ondo State”

Abraham has come a long way in his quest to rule the Sunshine State.

In 2016, he was rumoured to have been the candidate of the national leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

He lost out to the incumbent. The outcome of that primary election led to parting of ways between Tinubu and former APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

This led to emergence of Adams Oshiomole in 2018 to preside over the party for a four years term.

When preparations for the 2020 polls commenced, it was certain the Tinubu/Oshiomole team were not ready to see Akeredolu return for a second term.

This led Akeredolu (SAN) to team up with some other governors and political leaders within and outside the south-west.

The combination of these forces eventually consumed Oshiomole who had openly began to fight ‘2023’ wars for Tinubu.

With Oshiomole out of the way, the forces backing Abraham may have tactically retreated knowing fully well that they may be confronting Akeredolu and his invisible allies.

With the withdrawal of Abraham, suggestions are now in the air that the Tinubu forces will now join forces to deliver Akeredolu and wait for their turn in 2024.

This is coming about a week after the Jagaban in a widely publicized statement declared that he desires a free, fair and credible primary that is run according to the dictates of internal democracy and is devoid of bias for or against any candidate.
