Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has rejected the congratulations from his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP rival, Timi Alaibe describing it as an insult and uncharitable.

The governor has thus asked Aliabe to reissue a new congratulations if he really meant well.

The governor’s offense it was gathered flowed from the wordings of the press statement issued by Alaibe’s personal assistant, Enize Ogio following last Tuesday’s Supreme Court decision which upheld Diri as the candidate of the PDP in the election.

In congratulating Diri, Alaibe had while justifying his court action said: “when criminality is ignored or allowed to continue unchallenged, those responsible for such actions and even the uninformed observers could accept it as a way of life. It also has the capacity to encourage further lawlessness.

“I hereby reject that insulting message from one Enize Ogio. I hereby reject it in totality, and the PDP rejects it too. If they accept our olive branch, they should issue a new statement

“To our supporters, we appeal for calm. The Supreme Court has spoken, and as law- abiding citizens, we must at this point move on and draw the curtain on this particular issue. We have followed the due process of the law; and can go no further.”

Alaibe then went on to soothe his disappointed supporters before congratulating the governor.

However, rejecting the tone of Alaibe’s message, the governor during an address to visiting members of the State Working Committee, SWC of the party rejected the congratulation.

A statement by the acting Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Daniel Alabrah, quoted the governor as describing Alaibe’s felicitation as insulting and uncharitable.

“I hereby reject that insulting message from one Enize Ogio. I hereby reject it in totality, and the PDP rejects it too. If they accept our olive branch, they should issue a new statement to let the PDP and the government of Bayelsa know that they are still members of our party.”
