17 Die, Despair As COVID-19 Curve Rises Again

50% Rise In New Cases In 24 Hours

Nigeria recorded a spike in the number of daily COVID-19 cases on Wednesday after the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC reported 457 new cases of the pandemic.

It was a 50% increase in the figure reported for the previous day, a development that dimmed expectations of an imminent flattening of the curve of the pandemic in the country.

The concern was also worsened by the spike in deaths as 17 persons were reported to have died from the pandemic on Wednesday. It was the highest mortality in more than a week.

Even more, Lagos which had in the past four days reported double digit numbers of new cases on Wednesday reported 137 new cases as it took over its leading position from the FCT which reported 76 new cases.

Plateau State reported the third highest number of new cases with 40 new cases reported on Wednesday.

Cross River Sate which has had a serious strain with federal authorities over claims of the absence of the virus in the state reported 10 new cases on Wednesday.

The new cases reported on Wednesday brought the total number of cases reported in the country to 44,890 with 32,165 discharged and 927 deaths.
