The Nasarawa State Commissioner for Agriculture and Water Resources, Prof Allahnana Otaki has vowed to bring to book all those involved in the stealing of 115 trucks of fertilizsers worth N356m.

He said that in the 2017/2018 cropping season, the immediate past administration applied for 300 trucks of fertilizer, but 115 of the allocated trucks were stolen in the ministry of agriculture.

“When I assumed duty last year as commissioner for agriculture, I met the problem of fertilisers that were applied for in the 2017/2018 cropping season on the ground.

“Unfortunately, of the 300 trucks applied for, 115 trucks were diverted by the previous administration of the ministry.”

Gov. Abdullahi Sule and his predecessor, Tanko Al-Makura

“So when I came, my attention was drawn to it by the Permanent Secretary and we asked how we could recover the fertilisers from the Fertiliser Blennding Plant in Bokos, Plateau State.

“We resolved to invite the police or the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to intervene.”

Otaki said the ministry has put in mechanisms to prevent reoccurrence.

He said: “You know the current situation we are in is a political period. People have different ways of reading the situation. By the time you do that, you send a disturbing signal into the public. But then we have to find a most civilised way, like I said, to recover the fertilisers.”

The Governor Abdullahi Sule administration had sometimes in the past been dragged into controversy over allegations of picking on the preceding Tanko Al-Makura government that facilitated its emergence.
