Sylva Mum As Amaechi Okays Truce In APC S/South War
The All Progressives Congress, APC on Monday moved to reconcile two of its major leaders in the South-South geopolitical zone, Rotimi Amaechi and Timipire Sylva, respectively ministers of transportation and petroleum (state).
The trouble shooting mission spearheaded by the chairman of the national caretaker committee, Mai Buni, however, ended on a dramatic note when Amaechi claimed that they had achieved peace while Sylva kept mum.
The two ministers and former governors who were greatly helpful in reportedly raising funds for President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term election in 2015 have, however, been reported to have turned into rivals in controlling and setting direction for the APC in the South-South.
On Monday after arriving separately at about 2.00 p.m. they met with Buni, the chairman of the national caretaker committee of the party.
At the closed door meeting, Buni was said to have charged them to come together for the good of the party especially in the light of strongly contended elections in the region.
Following the meeting as they briefed the press on the significant development, Amaechi said: “we have agreed that both of us will work together.”
Mr. Sylva who was beside Amaechi, however, kept mum.
Party spokesman, Yekini Nabena while welcoming the development said it was “another solid milestone in the achievement of the mandate given to the Governor Buni-led Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary National Convention Planning Committee to reconcile party members and reposition the party”.
