The Peoples Democratic Party’s, PDP’s candidate in the upcoming Ondo gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has disclosed the reason why he didn’t pick Ondo deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, as his running mate.

GWG recalls that Ajayi had dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the PDP wanting to secure the party’s ticket for the office of governor but he was defeated in the party’s primary election by Jegede.

Agboola, unhappy with the development, defected again to the Zenith Labour Party and he emerged as the party’s flag bearer.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Jegede stated that contrary to expectations that he will choose Ajayi as his deputy, he chose Gboluga Ikengboju because Ajayi was part of the “failure” of Governor Akeredolu’s administration.

He said: “Ajayi chose not to be my deputy. His ambition is to be a governor under a political party. He left the APC, came to PDP, defeated in our primary, and went to ZLP.

“I took opinions from virtually everybody. People chose who my running mate became. When a choice is made we must respect it. One should not allow his ambition to override the choice of the people.

“All the policies that we are fighting, the pains we want to end are the product of Akeredolu and his deputy. He was in our party (as a member) for just six weeks. He is a very powerful person and humble, you cannot do away with that.”

Jegede also assured that if he gets elected he will strengthen the operations of Amotekun in Ondo State.

“Amotekun will stay without political influence. We must protect our people,” he added.
