Lagos 2023: Fashola’s Man Challenges Sanwo-Olu

Abdul-Azeez Adediran, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Lagos State on Tuesday formally declared his intention to battle Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the governorship ticket of the party ahead of the 2023 election.

Adediran who is an ally of the minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola unveiled his plans at a press conference in Lagos.

Observing that Lagos has not worked for the majority of the people of the state and especially for the indigenes, Adediran promised to change the narrative if given the party’s ticket.

Adediran, a journalist and presently, chief executive officer of Core Television, especially lamented what he claimed as the poor preparedness of those who he claimed were invested with political power over Lagos.

Adediran while highlighting what he termed as his ‘Lagos4Lagos Project’ to the press said he was not bothered about the political consequences of his action in staging an intention against the desires of the political leadership of the state.

According to him his Lagos4Lagos Project was being driven by three major groups which he named as Ibile Eko, Team Jandor and Eko United.

According to him while Ibile Eko (Indigenous Lagosians) would mobilise the indigenous people of Lagos on their political belonging, Eko United would target the elite in Lagos.

“Lagos4Lagos mantra is a mantra where everybody’s expression is needed. Lagos has not worked for Lagos, it has only worked for a few people, and we are hitting the streets to ensure Lagos that works for all,” he said.

Against the background of the recent sack of three of his coordinators from their respective positions in the local government system in Lagos, Adediran said he would not mind the consequences of his declaration.

Hon. Olabode Benson Makinde, the Principal Coordinator of Ibile-Eko Forum was last September suspended as Supervisor for Agriculture and Social Services of Oto-Awori LCDA.

At the same time Hon. Wahab Ashade, the Ibile-Eko Coordinator at Olorunda and the Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture and Social Development at the LCDA and Mr. Dada Adeshina, a Ward Coordinator for Ibile-Eko at Olorunda and the Special Assistant on Revenue Matters to the Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA were also suspended.

Despite being reputed as an ally to Fashola, the aspirant was, however, quick to distance himself from Fashola saying that the minister was not sponsoring or behind his aspiration.
