How Everton’s Ancelotti Used Experience On Chelsea’s Lampard

A struggling Everton got a 1-0 win over an in form Chelsea outfit at Goodison Park  to reaffirm their status as one of the best teams in the Premier League this season.

Frank Lampard’s army were sloppy in the opening minutes of the game. Thus, that lack of communication led to a penalty incident 20 minutes into the game. Dominic Calvert-Lewin drew a foul from high-flying Edouard Mendy in goal for Chelsea and Gylfi Sigurdsson converted from the spot. The Iceland international took his goal tally against the Blues to six which makes Chelsea the club he has scored the highest number of goals against.

The Toffees had an arduous task at hand to prevent a Chelsea side which had scored 25 goals prior to this fixture, from responding.

Adventurous Chelsea right back, Reece James came closest to finding an equalizer twice in forty seconds. Firstly, his free kick was parried away for a corner by Jordan Pickford. The corner kick loaded into the box by Mason Mount fell beautifully for Reece James who shot straight at Pickford. Pickford denied him again by pushing the ball to the cross bar, much to the frustration of James.

Two minutes later, Olivier Giroud nodded the ball down for Kurt Zouma who fired straight at Pickford. Carlo Ancelotti’s men would have doubled the lead, only for Edouard Mendy to produce a superb save from Richarlison’s left footed strike. Chelsea’s tenacity could not give them an equalizer as they trailed 1-0 at halftime.

One minute after the referee’s whistle for the second half, Pickford was caught in no man’s land from Thiago Silva’s long ball into the box, Mason Mount was on hand to try a lop from outside the area and the ball went over the bar.

Just like Jordan Pickford denied Reece James a goal on two occasions in the first half, Mendy would produce another marvelous save for the second time in the game from Richarlison’s curled effort in the 51st minute. Yerri Mina headed wide from a Sigurdsson inviting cross into the box one minute later.

Dead ball specialist, Sigurdsson planned to increase the advantage with his sumptuous free kick which narrowly missed target much to the relief of Mendy who wasn’t going to get anywhere near it.

Chelsea heaved a huge sigh of relief when Dominic Calvert-Lewin was ruled offside as he won another penalty in the 63rd minute. He was narrowly offside before he ran into the box, only to be disrupted by Ben Chilwell.

With ten minutes left on the clock, Mason Mount’s free kick hit the woodwork. Three minutes later, Olivier Giroud was unable to find the target, in spite of losing his marker when he received a cross from Timo Werner

Carlo Ancelotti masterminded an elusive victory over Frank Lampard who was part of the players that helped him win the Premier League in the 2009/2010 as his Everton side moved into the top half of the log.
