Foremost Yoruba monarch and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi has warned of serious repercussion for the country if the unwritten power shift agreement among All Progressives Congress, APC founders for a power shift to the South is broken.

Speaking when he endorsed the 2023 presidential aspirations of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in his palace on Monday, the Alaafin said that the Yoruba do not believing in breaking covenants.

He spoke when he received a delegation of former members of the National Assembly who were on a tour of Southwest monarchs in their mobilisaiton drive for Asiwaju Tinubu.

The former legislators under the aegis of South West Agenda (SWAGA ’23) was led by former former Minister of state for works, Senator Dayo Adeyeye.

Other members of the group include; Senator Rilwan Adesoji Akanbi, Hon. Oyetunji Ojo, Hon. Bosun Oladele, Hon. Rotimi Makinde,Hon. Kafilat Ogbara, Hon. Toba Oke, Hon. Deji Jakande, Hon. Gboyega Okegbemi and immediate past Secretary to Ondo State Government, Ifedayo Abegunde.

Speaking when he received the group in his palace, the respected monarch who said he believes in the mission of the group and gave them his blessing, said:

“We Yoruba people believe that you don’t break covenant even if it is not written. We believe that if we do, it will have a repercussion. It is not too early for you to go round.

“In the northern states, federal government said Boko Haram have been defeated but they are still slaughtering people. Your mission is well thought of but I won’t say more than that. I believe in your mission.”

The monarch’s assertion follows admissions by President Muhammadu Buhari of an unwritten covenant between foundation members of the APC for a power shift prior to the merger of the parties that formed the now ruling party.

The Olubadan of Ibadan land, Oba Saliu Adeunji who was also visited by the group on his part said he was open to all Yoruba politicians desirous of political office.

“I appreciate you all. I am proud of you, if you don’t demand for your right, they many not give you. You will prosper with this group.

“Let me tell you that the doors of the palace is widely opened to all Yoruba politicians who wishes to seek votes.”

Prince Adeyeye who himself was a former spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had told the two monarchs that Tinubu was the only Southern politician with political structure that could defeat any opponent even in his or her ward.

He equaled Tinubu’s political sagacity to that of Moshood Abiola who defeated Tofa in Kano State in the 1993 presidential election.

He said:

“The agenda of the group is to call out all well meaning South-Westerners to encourage, market and support the candidature of their Principal His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (the Jagaban Borgu) for the office of the President of Nigeria in 2023.

“Their goal is driven by desire for a common front to push the Yoruba Agenda for leadership of Nigeria.”

He affirmed that they were not commissioned by Tinubu to market him but that they were driven by his contributions to human development and the development of Lagos.
