Police Arrest 10 In Lagos For Traffic Robbery

Four policemen have refunded the N70,000 extorted from a 16- year old student have been made to refund the money after being tracked by the authorities of the command.

The news of the development came as the police command disclosed that it had arrested the four police inspectors who allegedly harassed and extorted the N70, 000 from the 16-year-old student.

The suspect police Inspectors are 223329 Emmanuel Michael, male, 40, 146504, Sunday Odubiyi, male, 40, 256496 Lawrence Amedu, male, 39, and 255043 Aroye Dickson, male, 40.

The incident was said to have occurred on Wednesday, at NGAB junction, Isheri axis of the state and was captured in pictures which have since gone viral.

Hakem Odumosu, commissioner of police, Lagos state, stated this in a statement on Friday, signed by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the command.

The Lagos police commissioner noted that the pictures of the alleged extortion attracted the compliant response unit of the force, which led to the tracking of the police officers involved in the incident.

“This attracted the Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, Force Headquarters Abuja, and decided to track the policemen for necessary police action,” Odumosu said.

“After due interrogation, the policemen confessed to the crime and refunded the money to the student on bond, which forms the key credible evidence in the case.”

Odumosu noted that the police officers involved refunded the money extorted from the student, identified as Segun which forms a credible evidence, after interrogation.

He said: “I have ordered the orderly room trial of the inspectors with immediate effect so as to serve as deterrents to other criminally-minded police personnel in the command and beyond.”
