Police arrest Prophet Onyenze

A cross-section of Nigerians on social media are reacting to the recent arrest of Onyebuchi Okocha aka, Onyenze Jesus, who is the founder of Children of Light Anointing Ministries based in Nkpor, Anambra State. The arrest of Prophet Onyenze Jesus has indeed drawn diverse reactions.

GWG recalls that many Nigrians and the Anambra State government had kicked against the self acclaimed prophet after a video of him spraying N50 naira notes on some of his followers as they had their bath in a river in what was alleged to be a money ritual exercise.

According to C. Don Adinuba, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, who had warned Onyeze Jesus against his practices which the government termed “criminal and indecent conduct in the name of religion”.

A source who spoke with Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) stated that the prophet was arrested on Wednesday, 27th January 2021 and may be arraigned for various offences.

The arrest of the pastor was also confirmed by the police in Anambra but they refused to give further details.

Reacting to this development, some social media commentators took to their accounts as some stated that the pastor had promised to raise seven dead bodies back to life today being Thursday. There are speculations by some that Prophet Onyenze Jesus faked his arrest so that he wouldn’t perform the impossible task of raising the dead.

Also, there are some persons who are of the view that the pastor should not be arrested as he is not the problem with the country and some commended the police for arresting and also called for the arrest of his followers. GWG gathered some of their thoughts below:
