The crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC over the ongoing party registration and validation exercise deepened on Tuesday after Lai Mohammed dubbed the party’s spokesman, Yekini Nabena an impostor.

Lai’s assertion followed the call on him by Nabena to submit himself to Governor Abdulrhaman Abdulrazaq in the ongoing drag for supremacy in the Kwara State chapter of the party.

Lai Mohammed had at a press conference on Monday called for the cancellation of the exercise in Kwara on the claim that it was being rigged against other tendencies by the governor.

Nabena had in reaction chided the minister urging him to submit to the leadership of the governor.

“It is not business as usual. Nobody can monopolise the system. The minister should submit to the governor. He should put himself in the position of the governor too,” he told Premium Times.

Reacting to the development, Mohammed in a sharply worded statement on Tuesday dubbed Nabena an impostor.

In the statment titled “Nabena’s Statement on Kwara APC Membership Registration: I won’t Respond To An Impostor”

“My attention has been drawn to the statement credited to one Yekini Nabena, who was described as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on the ongoing APC Membership Registration in Kwara State.

“The said Nabena must have been speaking for himself, as the APC National Caretaker Committee, as presently constituted, has no position like that of Deputy National Publicity Secretary.

“As part of the resolutions from its last meeting in Abuja on Dec. 8th 2020, the APC NEC approved the immediate dissolution of the party organs at the polling units, wards, local government, states and zonal levels as well as the non-National Working Committee component of the NEC, and the immediate reconstitution and composition of the dissolved EXCOs to serve in their respective offices in a caretaker committee capacity, but excluding the non-NWC members of NEC.

“As things stand, therefore, anyone claiming to be the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC is an impostor, hence I will not dignify such a pretender with a response.”

Mohammed was the National Publicity Secretary of the APC before his appointment as minister in 2015.
