Unemployed man in court over alleged N400,000 theft
A 20-year-old unemployed man, Daniel Ishicheli, who allegedly stole his neighbour’s N400, 000, was on Friday docked at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
GWG reports that the unemployed man who resides at Iyana Ipaja area in Lagos, is standing trial on one-count charge of stealing.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the alleged offence on Feb.1, at 10 a.m. at No. 6, Akinrillo Alagunto St., Iyana Ipaja, Lagos.
He said that the unemployed man stole N400, 000, belonging to the complainant, Mr Lateef Oseni.
According to him, the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.
Section 287 provides three years imprisonment as punishment for stealing.
Ishicheli, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi granted the unemployed man bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until April 12, for mention.
In another development, a 30-year-old man, Akeem Oyewole, was arraigned for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N220,000.
Oyewole, whose address was not given, is standing trial on a two-count charge of stealing and breach of the peace.
According to the prosecutor, Oyewole committed the offences on Jan. 19, at 9.00 p.m. at Atan Nla Road, Baruwa Ipaja, Lagos.
The prosecutor said that the defendant stole a Boxer motorcycle belonging to Mr Mukalia Rokibu and conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by hitting the complainant with a wood on his neck.
He said the offences contravened Sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
Oyewole, however, denied committing such offences.
Magistrate Ogunkanmi, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
He adjourned further hearing until April 15.
