Tinubu’s Men Drag Wike As Critics Flay N50m Katsina Donation
Supporters of the 2023 presidential aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu are fighting with all claws, drawing in Nyesom Wike among others to manage negative fallouts from his N50 million to victims of the Katsina fire disaster on Wednesday.
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC was assailed by critics for passing over victims of similar disasters in Lagos and the Southwest and being rushing to donate to victims of the Katsina disaster. Many critics said he was aiming to win sympathy for his presidential aspiration.
President Muhammadu Buhari is from Katsina State where millions of naira of goods and property were on Monday lost to a fire disaster.
In fighting back, supporters of Tinubu argued that Wike donated N500 million to victims of the Sokoto Market disaster from government treasury and as such saw nothing wrong with Tinubu giving a fraction of that from his pocket to Katsina fire victims. Some others were also pointing at what they claimed were Tinubu’s leading role in the fight for democracy to assert that he could do no wrong.
Though the attack on Tinubu was initiated among others by Reno Omokri, who served in the Goodluck Jonathan presidential villa, non partisan critics quickly joined the fray.
GreenWhiteGreen GWG had reported that Tinubu flew into Katsina on Wednesday to sympathise with victims of the fire disaster and followed up by making a N50 million donation to the victims.
