Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio Arrives Warri ahead of meeting with Tompolo

Ahead of the seven-day deadline given by General Officer Commanding, GOC, Niger Delta struggle, Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo for the inauguration of the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, the minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has commenced a peace mission to him.

Akpabio and coordinator of the Amnesty Programme are said to be on their way to the creeks to meet with Tompolo at Oporoza, traditional headquartres of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Delta State, Vanguard reported on Thursday.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG reports that Tompolo had last Sunday given President Muhammadu Buhari a seven day ultimatum to inaugurate the board of the NDDC failing which he vowed that the government would see the rage of the Niger Delta.

A source familiar with Akpabio’s mission told Vanguard, “He is already in Warri, he is going to the creek to appeal to Tompolo  to withdraw his ultimatum as regards the substantive NDDC board.”

“The move became expedient to protect critical national assets from being destroyed by militants.

“It is an exclusive meeting between the Minister, Niger Delta Amnesty Coordinator and Minister of Petroleum and Tompolo,” he added.

Before Tompolo spoke several groups including political chieftains within the All Progressives Congress, APC had been calling on the president to inaugurate the board of the NDDC but such calls were not given heed to.

However, given the capacity of Tompolo who is easily reckoned as the most powerful of the former militants and agitators, the Buhari government has apparently decided to seek him out for peace.
