One gunman met his waterloo on Sunday morning in Owerri while seven of his colleagues were apprehended in a failed attack to attack the Imo State police headquarters.

It was gathered that the attack started as early as 8.15 a.m. on Sunday morning as residents of the state capital made their way to go to church.

The special security forces deployed at the command headquarters which is adjoining the Government House responded and one of the gunmen who had in the past been repeatedly described as “Unknown Gunmen.”

It was gathered that the gunmen were engaged at the entrance to the road leading to police headquarters and in the process, the a hummer jeep with which the invaders came was demobilized.

GreenWhiteGreen GWG gathered that the security men were on Sunday morning still looking out for others who came with the invaders to apprehend all of them.

The authorities in Owerri are under pressure to reveal the identity of the gunmen following revelations by Governor Hope Uzodimma that 70% of the persons apprehended during recent attacks are not Igbo.

The revelation by the governor has put paid to insinuations by administration officials and security agencies that the people who have been attacking the state are members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

However, neither the governor nor the security agencies have given the identity of the men behind the attacks.
